On October 2016 when I travelled to Timeepa, a village behind the mountainous in highland of Papua, I have stared at beautiful mountainous along the way. It was the first time I’ve been there, so I travelled happily.
I and John, my friend there as reporter to make news about event of welcoming a new parish father at ‘Kristus Penebus’ parochial Timeepa. As a new traveler, we’re accompanied by David Petege, headmaster of YPPK (Catholic Education Foundation) Timeepa primary school.
When we arrived at Teu River, bike we ride on has stopped, because there is no bridge also the road to Timeepa village and we continued our travel on foot. It seems that the government of Dogiyai regency never thought the way to the villages.
Like other countryside, Timeepa also hidden behind the mountainous. It’s far from crowded town. But I amazed when I looked down from the mountain top of Megaikebo. I saw small town in the middle of the jungle.
We traveled 2 hours long and we arrived in Timeepa. We met Stef Petege, Village Secretary of Gabaikunu and the other villagers of Timeepa. I know Stef Petege because we’ve ever met couple of days before.
As a Village Secretary, he introduced us to Yan Tebai, a figure from Timeepa (Mapia). He also told us about the village and guided us to interview with Yan Tebai (82-years old-man).
Yan Tebai told us that he ever become a chef at presbytery since 1960, a year after father Swarses, OFM (Catholic Missionary) arrived in Timeepa. He also had built some mission airports in Mapia. Finally, he opened his owner business. But he need for help from the government.
On 19 October 2016, a day after we arrived, early in the morning, parish of Kristus Penebus Parochial Timeepa wait for new parish father coming a,t the mission airport.
New and old parish fathers finally come with AMA (Associated Mission Aviation) aircraft Pilatus Porter PK RCQ (Romeo Carry Qiuqiu). Parishes of Kristus Penebus Parochial Timeepa have been welcoming by traditional dance.
Old parish father, Octovianus Taena, Pr. moved to Timika because he often attack decease. And new parish father, Rufinus Madai, Pr. changed his position as a parish father of Kristus Penebus Timeepa.
